Art & More Art

I've been a busy little bee this week making some art pieces.  I'm trying to divide up my free time between quilting & mixed media & it's not always easy to switch the mindset.  Then other times  I'll be in the middle of doing a quilt & get an idea for a collage & want to stop & make it NOW.  I'm trying to be more organized, write the idea down & wait till I'm done with what I'm working on.  I so love doing both & it's so much fun.   At times I like to include the sewing theme into the mixed media project & mixed media into my quilts.

A sneak peak at one

Yesterday I saw the new Somerset Workshop III along with Somerset Memories at the book store.  I skimmed through them & had to buy them both.  Workshop features only 4 artists, one of them being Connie Govea Stuart who I know.  Then today in the mail I received a package from CGS & inside was one of her Workshop projects, this darling stuffed paper shoe.  Thanks CGS!  It's adorable &  very much a surprise gift.  Also in the Workshop is Lisa Guerin, Olivia Thomas & Rachel Emilie Jackson.  Such wonderful projects & techniques.

Artsy Craftsy Girl's Day Out

Yesterday I went to the Cottage Boutique in Pleasanton with my friend & neighbor Linda.  There were 17 or so artists there.  What fun looking at all the Halloween goodies & other wonderful art.

Susan Arnot was there.  I love her art.  This little china doll cupcake had to come home with me.

Christine Lefever was there.  It was a thrill to meet her as I have admired her dolls for some time now.    Here's a fun little pumpkin pin cushion that she made complete with glitter.

And below, the art of Connie Govea Stuart.  I love all the sepia tones.

After the boutique we went to American Harvest to see Sharon & Rodger & look all of their goodies & an outdoor art show (in the rain).

Then we went to see PKM at IBS.  The shop was bursting at the seams as this was the day of Alex Anderson's quilt show (in the rain) & quilters were buying everything in sight.    After that on to a local antique store  & then home.  An entire "girl" day!

Thank you Cher!

Instead of leaving for our planned month's vacation at Lake Shasta my husband will leave Tuesday with the motorhome & boat & I will stay behind being sure mom is okay in the nursing home.  It all started a week ago today with the hospital & then move to the nursing home for her but she is starting to come to terms with it.

I'm thinking I might drive up to Shasta in about a week for a few days then back & forth 2-3 times to be with mom too.  We have several friends joining us up there & I'd like to be there at least part of the time.  We'll see how it goes.  It will be awful lonely here going from a family of three to just me for a while.

I got a nice surprise in the mail yesterday from Cher Lashley, one of the editors at Stampington.  I gave her a piece of my artwork & she sent me a piece of her artwork as a surprise.  Isn't it wonderful.  I love those Character Construction stamps & she must have known my colors as well.  Thanks Cher!  You must have known I was in need of a treat this week.
